Book Review- Let Me Go by Britaini Armitage
I always enjoy reading Britaini’s books! I love the chemistry between Harper and Kyle. Their secret love-affair starts out flaming-hot like a splash of vodka in a hot pan, then turns down to a simmering slow-burn that makes my heart ache with longing. It’s so clear that they are right for each other, but they each think there are too many obstacles between them, not to mention the tragedy halfway through that scars their hearts. Harper’s sarcastic humor and pranks made me

Book Review- Unexpected Gifts by Maria Grace
Maria Grace never fails to delight! I devoured these bite-sized Christmas short-stories quicker than bon-bons. The first story takes place when Darcy and Lizzy have been married for 2 years. Their plans to celebrate Christmas at Pemberley go awry when they are summoned to spend the holiday at Rosings with the cantankerous Lady Catherine instead. What’s Lady Catherine got up her sleeve? I won’t spoil it, but it turns out there’s a good heart hiding in that bossy old lady.

Book Review- A Strand of Hope by Amanda Tero
A coming-of-age tale of hope in depression-era Kentucky Lena’s a fifteen-year old girl who devours every book she can get her hands on. She spends as much time at the library as she can, yearning to escape her alcoholic mother. Soon, she makes friends with an older couple living in the mountains who help the skeptical locals warm up to h

Book Review- Love and Other Machines by Alix James
The basic premise of any great Pride and Prejudice variation: Darcy falls for Elizabeth because she is unlike any woman he has ever met; she initially thinks he is an arrogant snob, until the day she realizes he is unique among men. The twist in this story: despite their gentry upbringing, both Elizabeth and Darcy have a fondness for mathematics and machinery. Elizabeth, substituting for the son her parents had hoped for, was allowed to play with toys that encouraged her mech

Book Review- Confined with Mr. Darcy by L.L. Diamond
In a brilliant move, L.L. Diamond has taken current events, and turned them into the motive for her modern-day Pride and Prejudice story. As Covid-19 spreads across England and the country prepares to shut down, Darcy invites Elizabeth to come stay at Pemberley and quarantine there. Newlyweds Bingley and Jane, just returned from their honeymoon in Greece, are also staying at Pemberley, albeit in a separate cottage on the grounds. Being confined with Mr. Darcy and his darlin

Book Review- Hear Me Call by Britaini Armitage
I was honored to read an advance copy of Britaini Armitage’s latest romantic suspense, Hear Me Call. It’s the fourth book in her “You and Me” series, but focuses on a different couple than the first three books. The plot is able to stand alone apart from the others, so if you hadn’t read the preceding books, you wouldn’t feel like you were missing too much to enjoy this story. The romance centers on Ryan, a former Navy seal now working as a personal bodyguard, and Taylor, a

Book Review- Pride and Intentions by Dushica Labovich
A breathtaking story of love, heartbreak, betrayal, and forgiveness. Romeo and Juliet meets Pride and Prejudice. “Now I know that everything was supposed to happen just the way it did, because if it didn’t, maybe I wouldn’t have spent the rest of my life in the most beautiful fairy tale with your grandfather.” When I heard Dushica Labovich announce that she was writing a story inspired by Pride and Prejudice-- my favorite Jane Austen novel-- I just knew I had to read it. Book Review- A Dream Within a Dream by Mike Nappa and Melissa Kosci
Melissa Kosci joins Mike Nappa to bring us the third installment in the Coffey and Hill suspense series. PI Trudi Coffey and police detective/ex CIA Samuel Hill are off on another adventure together. This time, they are trying to help a young man who goes by Dream, whose blocked memories are the key to solving a decades-old art theft. In hot pursuit of them are the Boston Mob and FBI agent Tama Uribe-- a lady whose agenda to recover the stolen paintings may not be altruisti

Book Review- The Earl's Reluctant Bride by Karen Lynne
A sweet, slow-burn romance, with a happily-ever-after ending. Karen Lynne brilliantly executes the “fake engagement” trope in a Regency romance setting-- no easy task! Susan Hamilton wants to avoid marrying the low-life wastrel her new stepmother has picked out for her. James, the Earl of Malmesbury, wants to teach his greedy cousin, his heir presumptive, to stop acting like he already owns the family fortune. James’ solution: to propose a fake engagement, which will end at

Book Review- The Raven by Mike Nappa
The Raven is the second book in Mike Nappa’s “Coffey and Hill” suspense series. This story picks up about a year and a half after the “Annabel Lee” case ends. Trudi Coffey is still running her private investigations firm at a shopping center in Atlanta, and Samuel Hill now works for the Atlanta PD. It appears she’s turned down his suggestion that he return to being her partner full-time, but they do work together on cases that come up from time to time. Like this one that’s

Book Review- Annabel Lee by Mike Nappa
I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up Annabel Lee, by Mike Nappa. The cover, with a creepy photograph of a staircase to a dark basement and the jagged font denoting the title, a hint at a line from an Edgar Allen Poe poem, made me think this could possibly be a horror book. But, as most people would tell you, "you shouldn't judge a book by its cover." Diving in, I began to get sucked into the first-person narrative of 11 year-old Annabel Lee Truckson, growing up in t

Book Review- Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Jane Austen and Ben H. Winters
If you’ve read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, or seen the movie, then you already know the basic premise behind this book: Jane Austen’s classic story moves along as she originally wrote it, with little quirks added along the way, then all of a sudden, in the middle of the story, some strange phenomenon occurs, totally original and certainly bizzarre. In this case, it’s not zombies we are talking about here though, but vicious sea-life; fish and mythological monsters of the

Book Review- Jane of Austin by Hillary Manton Lodge
When I first saw the title of this book, I knew it was one I had to read. A modern-day Jane Austen novel, set in my very own hometown? Yup, totally gonna eat that up. And I did. From the opening chapter to the satisfying ending, I gobbled up Jane of Austin like it was a piece of my favorite chocolate flourless cake. It’s very rare to find a good Jane Austen fanfiction these days, and even rarer to find a modern-day adaptation that works and doesn’t feel cheesy, but Hillar
